Lots of Cleaning & Almost Final Week – Our First Major Remodel

Where we left off in Saturday Cabinet Install, we had some serious cleaning up to do because the drywall sanding and the inconsistent barriers left numerous rooms and furniture an absolute mess. So we invested in some new cleaning supplies, a Bissell Crosswave Pet Pro Multi-Service Wet Dry Vac and a Bissell Little Green Pet Pro Portable Carpet Cleaner (mainly for upholstery). Those paired with our tried and true Swiffer Wet Jet, Swiffer, and of course the Dyson vacuums we've had for some time were are weapons of choice. So we cleaned. And cleaned. And cleaned some more.

Monday and Tuesday

We were thinking that the following week would leave us with a functional but still incomplete kitchen. Painting was going to happen the week after that, we thought. Before that could start, there was still drywall work to complete. On Monday, the rest of the drywall work was completed. The hole where the fan used to be was patched, mudded, sanded, and prepped for painting. The rest of the walls that still needed to be, were also prepped for painting. Then Tuesday, the primer coat went on.

Wednesday

The first coats of Sherwin-Williams "Drizzle" get applied.

Thursday

Thursday was a flurry of activity. The last coat(s) of paint was applied. The 5/6-inch and 4-inch Philips Hue Recessed Lights were installed. The finale for Thursday was Busenbark Flooring and Granite returning to install the countertops. No major reveal in the photos here because they covered them for a reveal on Friday.

Friday

When work completed on Friday, we were left with a functioning kitchen. All appliances were installed, the sink and faucet were installed, and the plumber checked out a water pressure issue in the master bathroom that was caused by the frequent on/off of the water main. I made a trip to Home Depot to get a replacement aerator for the faucet and we were good to go.

There's no big reveal photos in this post. Our GC is on vacation the following week so work won't complete for another week. The backsplash still needs to be installed, as do pulls for the cabinets. There's also a fair amount of fit and finish work that's needed. We've made a lengthy punch list that hopefully dovetails with the GC's.

We also have a ton of cleaning to do to get the rest of the house back in order. I'll return with a follow up post to show the transformation. While we of course wish it were complete, even in this 95% complete state, it's living up to be everything we hoped it would. Check out Another Full Week to see what happens next.
