This is a new topic, one that can't help but be top of mind. We've been in our home for a little over 13 years now, and while we've done a number of projects over the years, we've not undertaken a major remodel. We've done a number of big-ish projects, but nothing to the kitchen or bathrooms, no re-finishing the basement. So what have we done?
Closets
We had closet systems installed in the bedrooms (not including the master) and foyer. We worked with St. Louis Closet Company on this project. They did some really nice work with our closets.

Playroom
We turned what was the dining room into the Play/Study Room and downsized the formal dining room a bit. St. Louis Closet Company built the cabinets in the Play/Study Room, but we had some issues with the cabinet doors bubbling that have been a little frustrating.

Office
We turned the smallest bedroom into an office/bedroom. Elana Jamison-Fishman at NewSpace. She took my vision for the office and Amy's requirement that we have a Murphy Bed and made it work perfectly for us.

Deck Remodel
We tore down and rebuilt the deck - our personal favorite project. Roesch Construction turned our vision into a really great outdoor space.

Sunroom Repair
We had the sun-room mostly gutted and redone after the chimney leaked.

We fenced in the backyard. We've replaced the HVAC system and hot water heater. Even with all that, the bathrooms remain mostly untouched, outside of changing their color a few times. The kitchen didn't even get a paint touch up.
What's coming up?
Until now. 2024 is the year we dive into our biggest project yet; we're remodeling the kitchen. We're:
- opening it up to the living room
- making the flooring consistent throughout the main floor, except for the sun-room.
- shutting off access to the sun-room from the living room and putting a vent back in the living room.

We're removing the seldom-used wet bar off the living room and having that extra space added to the master closet, after which we'll have a professionally installed closet system and master-pantry to help us be better organized.

Because the wall between the kitchen and living room will come down, the TV will switch to the opposite side of the room, meaning we'll completely reconfigure that space.

So that's where we're starting from and what we think we're doing. I'll share progress in hopefully regular updates. We're already about a week and a half into demo and prep for build, so updates should be more frequent.
Stay tuned to see how this family of 5 humans and 1 pup survive life without a kitchen and living room, and furnishings all over the place. They tell us it will take 3-4 weeks, so we'll see how that goes. The next installment is Demolition Complete – Our First Major Remodel.
